sltrib, Wednesday, June 22, 2011. Macy's A section ad. The way the pubic area is emphasized by the cut of the swimsuit is what drew my eye. The way the fabric shows the natural form of her breast and shapes them is another interesting feature. I copied the one on the lower right because it shows the feminine form more more and because I think the model is sort of affecting Ann Margaret bedroom eyes. I got that term, as I have explained, from the people around me when I was working for Varsity Janitorial Service. They told me the male Nick beat up had "bedroom eyes". The told me indirectly so that when I saw his eyes I was respond with a flash fuse to the term. He had beautiful eyes but I don't remember what was beautiful. Maybe they were hazel or something. I decided to copy and save it because I had been talking with the gargoyles about race and a Sambo's ad. At the time around the Civil Rights Act, the were talking about the de facto ban on minorities appearing in advertisements like this one. One of the issues brought up wa! s that such ads would encourage race mixing. I think the Virginia miscegenation law was still on the books and probably some others. If you look at ads now, its not uncommon to see a "majority of minorities" as John Tanton and the Pew Hispanic center like to say and I guess certain parts of the anti-Obama people who talk about it now are the same ones who in those days talked about the dangers of a majority of minorities as the water heats slowly around the frog. In Classics you inevitably hear of the white supremist idea that the great Aryan civilizations like the Greek and Roman declined as they mixed with inferior races. I'd mention India too but I can't think of what the Aryan civilization there was called. Little Black Sambo was a Tamil and I think Tamil culture inhabits Sri Lanka and southern India. You know, ZCMI would often have pictures similar to the one in the lower right but with the model's arm moved up to cover her navel. The issue of pandering to sexual inter! ests got a lot of attention around the time of the civil right! s moveme nt. I can recall Tribune articles discussing this concession to modesty. It makes me think of the "All Seeing Eye of the Lord" motto of this collective. It's a Greek term (I mean "the all-seeing eye of the lord") but I can't think of the Greek right now. I think it's a neuter, "to theon", but I better not say. The 1978 letter that ended the racial test for temple worthiness specifically endorsed mixed race marriage as it gave worthy black Africans unequivocal access to the priesthood and temple marriage but I guess it had already endorsed mixed marriage since the Black-African race was the only one that had been disqualified. Most bathing suits with a skirt are more modest than this one. I can remember how surprised I was when my sister told that Shelly had chosen the bathing suit she wore to the For Douglas Country Club swimming classes. It was a one piece of relatively heavy fabric and a skirt that covered a lot more than this one. I keep thinking it was some sort of an ap! ron thing that hung from the bodice to below the crotch. At that time I would have thought it was nerdy or maybe uncool. I wouldn't have used either of those words, though, and I was still in denial about the fact I had noticed that my nieces and nephews didn't all have forms like those in the Sunday inserts. Actually, it's still a disturbing thought to me and it stretches beyond them to everyone. My sister said she "absolutely loves" it. I'll bet Shelly remembers it. I think it was sort of a lime green print. Do you remember when Wal-Mart started to use the children of employees for their ads? I know that sometimes they use bigger or maybe "more robust" females for bra ads and I think that started around the time they were discussing the pandering issue. They still do that sometimes. It was made like a wrap around as on side hung loosely from the area in front of her right armpit down to below the level of her hip where it curved to make the bottom hem, the whole length o! f which was finished white cotton embroidered lace ruffle. It! wasn't really lace but I can't think of the right name.
